Stitch Fix Review #2

Happy Sunday Y'all!  We are winding down from an amazing weekend filled with friends.  On Friday, we had pizza at Element Wood Fired Pizza in Northeast with some friends that we haven't seen in ages.  They are new parents and we got to meet their little man and catch up.  It was a quiet but exciting night out and worked perfectly for all of us.  Since we were nearby, we stopped at Dangerous Man Brewing for a few pints.  DEFINITELY get their Peanut Butter Porter...SO GOOD!

Saturday, we made plans with another couple to check out the Science Museum of Minnesota.  Mike has been wanting to go forever and they had some neat exhibits going on.  We were excited to see Humpback Whales in the Omnitheater and sleuth our way through the Sherlock Holmes special exhibit.  I do have to say that each was a *bit* disappointing, but we had a great time doing something different and checking another item off our list.

This morning we went for breakfast at a local cafe - Pappy's Cafe.  {I'm surprised they even have a website}  Everything was mouthwateringly delicious, our waitress was a gem and has been there since they opened, and our bill was TWENTY-THREE DOLLARS!!  Are you kidding?!  From this day forth, everyone is hereby invited to come visit us for breakfast.  It is worth it, trust me.

And now...the reason you're all here.

Saturday night, we came home to that lovely little box on our porch.  I was going to try to resist, but ended up trying everything on RIGHT AWAY.  I was really nervous for this fix because I had such great luck my first time.  It's hard to remember that you won't always get a 5/5 fix, so I had no idea what to expect.  When I first unboxed it, I was already excited!

First, I could see great colors, some floral, and definitely some leggings.  I ripped it right open!!

Then came the hard part of trying everything on in warp-speed because I was loving it all!  Luckily, the hubby was there to zip me up and give me advice.  He is so great at telling me when things looks frumpy or if they just don't work.  He's always honest and so helpful :)  He also had his eyes pop out of his head when I turned around in the Muse dress.  Va-Va-Voom!!

Here's the rundown ---

ONE:  Crescent Licarde Lace Detail Blouse.  This shirt has lace, a great color, and fits so well! One thing I love about it is the bottom of the sleeves.  They are slightly gathered and stretchy so you can pull them up your arms a bit for a totally different look.  I have almost no red in my closet, so this shirt is a fantastic addition.  It is work and play appropriate, and I can even get by with no camisole underneath if I want to.  LOVE this top!

TWO:  Skies are Blue Shenay Dress.  This dress is line and zipped up perfectly.  It has a silky feel to it and a little cap sleeve which I love.  I was worried about this looking a bit frumpy but I think it has just enough play in it.  What do you think?  I absolutely love floral items, and for some reason I tend to look great in blue dresses.  This is perfect for everything from a baby shower to a concert to a day at the office.  There are lots of styling options with this piece and I can't wait to figure it out more!

THREE:  Lysse Joylyn Ponte Legging.  I don't own any leggings that cost more than $10 and I wanted to add some to my wardrobe.  I asked her for sturdy leggings that would accommodate my booty and thighs.  When I first tried them on, I wasn't quite sure, but after having them on again today, I am sold.  I am now on the lookout for tunics that I can wear out and about with these comfy, buttery, black gems!  (This picture caught some weird light, they are black with a stripe down the middle.) Obviously, I will not wear them in this way, but I wanted you to see what they really look like.  They have a wider waistband to help keep you all in place and keep them up.

FOUR:  Honey Punch Layla Elbow Patch Detail Cardigan.  This thing is SO cozy and soft!!  I absolutely love the elbow patches and I've been wanting to try some new stripes, so this piece is perfect!  Sadly, it is MASSIVE on me, so FYI it runs very large.  I am trying to get a size exchange on this piece.  I highly recommend this cardigan.  It is so comfy and has a bit of fun flair which makes it a little extra spunky.  I'm wearing my new leggings in this outfit as well.

FIVE:  Muse Adora Dress.  I saved the best for last.  This dress fits like a glove and is the perfect mix of sexy and modest.  I am not a fan of cleavage, and it can be hard to keep the ladies in check when you're well endowed like me.  This dress does wonderful things for my body!  My wedding dress was the Adorae by Maggie Sottero, so maybe it was fate?  This dress is a teensy bit fancy, but I always like having something a little extra just in case.  I can't wait to wear this beauty!!

What do you think?  Are you ready to get yourself signed up for Stitch Fix?!  Check out my "How-To" post HERE and my very first fix HERE.

The general idea is that you get five fashion items shipped directly to your door and then you have three days to decide what you'd like to keep.  You pay a 20$ "styling fee" for the service, but when you purchase any item, the 20$ goes toward that purchase.  Shipping and returns are free.  Also, if you love all five items, you get a 25% discount on every item.  This is a HUGE discount.  Therefore, you really have nothing to lose!

I am happy to answer any questions about sizing, prices, or the service itself.  At the very least, I would love you to use my referral link to set up your profile.  You DO NOT have to order a box right away.  You can schedule it a month or two out in case you are worried about the holidays sucking up your extra cash.
Happy Fixing!!

How to Wear a Poncho

If you've been around here for very long, you know that I get a lot of hand-me-downs from my grandma.  You may think that's really strange, but she does a lot of her shopping at Pier1, so I have nothing to complain about!  Ha!  She also has a secret calling as an interior decorator.  Her house always looks immaculate and she is ridiculously talented at faux flower arrangements. A large portion of my home decor has come from her, or from my mom after she has gotten her own use out of it and passed it along.

This is a fact my grandma made sure to point out when she came to see our new home for the first time a few weeks ago.  I have several vases, arrangements, baskets, etc. that came from her.  Every corner she turned with delight, not only because she liked our home, but because she was even more excited to see that I was getting use out of plenty of her items.  #upcyclewin
Not only do I get tons of home decor from her, I also get plenty of clothing items.

CLOTHES FROM GRANDMA?!

You definitely think I'm crazy now, right?!  One of my favorite items are my combat boots she bought in Norway.  She wore them for a year and then they came straight to me.  She bought them while visiting me in Norway, and they are full of all those memories.  I wear them all the time!  AND, I always get compliments on them.  Great taste, Grandma!

I also loved this dress from her so much that it ended up ripping after a few years and I had to throw it away :(  Well loved!!

The most recent item I received was while she was last visiting.  I took it out of the bag and kindly kept my mouth shut.  A PONCHO?!  Ew.  I am short, and have a large chest.  I NEVER thought a poncho would work for me.  She was adamant that I didn't have to take it, but I'm always willing to try, so I threw on the grey cable knit poncho and checked myself out.

Worn with colored denim
I was having a good hair day...and it was actually kind of cute!  After prancing around in it for a while, I decided I would keep it and add it to my wardrobe.  I even got to wear it to a baby shower that weekend.  It is SO comfy and warm.  Plus, it's a great way to cover up anything you need to...tummy, booty, etc.  My mom kept teasing me if I was ever going to take it off.  Maybe not!!

HOW TO WEAR A PONCHO:

The general rules are to balance your body.  Something bulky on top with something fitted on the bottom.  So with a poncho, you will want to wear tighter jeans or leggings and a nice tee or long sleeved shirt underneath.  You can also go for a tighter skirt up to a midi length. You wouldn't want to wear a dolman top or tunic, or a larger maxi skirt...it will be too much fabric.   The idea is to contrast the flowing and bulky feel of a poncho by keeping everything else wrapped up!

Also, make the rest of your outfit opposite or compliment of the design of the poncho.  If you have a bright printed poncho, you might want to wear a white top underneath.  If you are wearing a  solid poncho, you could wear a printed/striped top underneath or even some colored denim.  Since you are wearing a large statement piece, make sure your other pieces work together and are not too bold.

As for shoes, you can wear anything from a flat to a knee high boot.  This will depend on the size of your poncho and wear it hits you on your body.  If you have a huge poncho that goes past your knees, a tall boot probably isn't the best fit.  If you have a poncho that just covers your upper body, a tall boot would be just fine!  And if you're like me, you've always got your trusty flats.

Realistically, there are TONS of ways to wear a poncho.  You can even break the rules and STILL look great!  I am definitely not a fashion expert, but can provide a little advice by stepping in to new territory myself.  Ponchos are so comfy-cozy and a fun way to change up your wardrobe.  The best part is they are office, party, and shopping appropriate.  You can wear these anywhere and look totally fashionable!

What's your best recent clothing find?  Do you have a poncho?  Let me know what you think of my new addition!!
